The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), through its Affiliations Office and E-Learning Centre, has launched a three-day virtual workshop aimed at equipping lecturers and tutors from its affiliate institutions with essential digital teaching tools and strategies for effective online instruction.

Speaking at the opening session, Mrs. Oluwakemi Titiloye, Senior Assistant Registrar, Affiliations Office at KNUST, highlighted the importance of the training for educators.
“This workshop is a significant step in our collective effort to improve the quality of education across our affiliate institutions. In today’s world, online education is no longer optional, it is a necessity. By participating in this training, educators will be equipped with the right tools and strategies to effectively engage students in the digital space,” she stated.
Mrs. Titiloye also revealed that the workshop expects participation from lecturers and tutors representing 27 public and private university colleges, five colleges of education, and 77 Ministry of Health training institutions.

Pro Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor David Asamoah, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to continuous professional development for both its staff and those of affiliated institutions.
He noted that as higher education evolves, adapting to digital learning environments is essential for maintaining high-quality teaching and learning.
“The shift to online and blended learning has transformed the way we deliver higher education, and it is imperative that we, as educators, adapt to these changes to remain effective and relevant,” he emphasized.
Professor Asamoah also pointed out that while artificial intelligence and automation are increasingly being explored in global education, human lecturers remain indispensable due to their social skills, emotional intelligence, and ability to inspire students.
He urged participants to actively engage in the sessions and embrace innovative approaches to enhance student learning experiences in the digital space.
“The knowledge and skills you gain here will not only benefit you but will also have a ripple effect on your students and institutions. Your ability to adapt, innovate, and inspire will determine the quality of learning experiences for your students,” the Pro Vice-Chancellor added.

Professor Eric Appau Asante, Director of the E-Learning Centre at KNUST, emphasized the significance of digital transformation in education.
“This training is an opportunity to enhance your digital teaching competencies and improve student learning outcomes. I encourage you to be fully engaged, practice the tools introduced, and actively participate in discussions,” he said.
He also noted that participants who successfully complete the workshop’s requirements will receive a certification issued by the KNUST E-Learning Centre and the Affiliations Office.
